The French Forces of the Interior was active in the later stages of the war from 1944/45. The paramilitary group was formed from 400,000 resistance fighters inside France under command of General Marie Pierre Koenig. FFI seized bridges, began liberation of villages and towns ahead of Allied Forces, and collected intelligence of German Units for Allied Forces.

The most famous was British Special Operations Executive Agent Christine Granville who became part of the SOE F Section clandestine network "Jockey" operating in France.
